Winning a game feels extraordinary and - if the players are still there - the last time we played there were some lovely, dedicated vampires online and entering the bloody arena. The map is a lovely showcase of verticality too, so while it is a little janky to control endlessly climbing vampires, it pays off in super bizarre top-down combat. However, with lovely vampire powers and classes comes extreme variety in gameplay and encounters - this game gets really feisty. You'll do the normal battle royale stuff: drop in as a team or solo, collect stuff, and try and survive until the end. We didn't have high hopes going into this third-person shooter, but the large-scale action is really quite good. Vampire The Masquerade BloodhuntThe Vampire The Masquerade Bloodhunt trophies are hard work, so do watch out if you take this suggestion, but this online battle royale features those key Redfall tenets - guns and vampires. Maybe back in my original dimension that’s still the case… These two design elements interweave and complement each other so effortlessly in Deathloop that I was led to presume Arkane just didn’t get tested on problems like these. Sink your teeth in and that mission fractures into a hundred smaller interconnected missions, all of which help you grow familiar with the exacting design of the not-quite-open world. ![]() Deathloop really only has one mission - a mission that sees protagonist Colt plotting to kill seven weirdos in a single run of the game’s Groundhog Day time-loop. Though to be fair, Arkane's Lyon Studio made Deathloop and Arkane Austin made Redfall - two teams with different lineages in Arkane's gaming DNA. Seeing these criticisms being levied at an Arkane Studios game after sinking time into collecting Deathloop trophies feels like waking up in an alternate dimension, because if there were two qualities Deathloop nails, it would be world and mission design. ![]() DeathloopTwo criticisms of Redfall keep coming up online - that the game’s open world is rather bland and that the mission design feels repetitive and mundane. ![]()
